Nikom says he's ready for battle if impeachment case taken up

FORMER PARLIAMENT deputy Nikom Wairatpanich said yesterday he was determined to fight impeachment proceedings against him and urged the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) to scrutinise the case on legal grounds - not because of pressure from political ac

“It depends on the NLA’s scrutiny whether they will accept the case or not. No matter how the outcome turns out I am ready to battle according to the law,” Nikom, also a former senator, said.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) found former Parliament president Somsak Kiatsuranon and his deputy Nikom guilty of violating the 2007 Constitution by pushing for charter changes in relation to the composition of the Senate.
The NLA is due to scrutinise the case this Thursday (November 6).
Officials say it is wavering between two options: Not accepting the case because the 2007 Constitution that it was filed under is now defunct; or accepting the case in its capacity as House of Representatives and Senate.
Nikom said regarding the impeachment case: “As a president I had to consider the suggestions made by the members. How would I not consider a proposal by them?”
If the NLA continued with the case, Nikom said: “The last approach is to call for justice, when there is no other way I have to turn to the justice system.
“I believe the NLA members who are government officials and militaries will consider the case according to the law not by any individual pressure to push forward the case. However, there might be a few people who want to pursue the impeachment case,” he said.
Asked if the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) was among these and could be considered as pressuring the NLA, he expressed concerns that such pressure could lead to further disputes. He did not want to see that happen again.
