No "Hunger Games" sequel at APEX chain

Bangkok (DPA) - APEX, a Thai cinema chain cancelled screenings of the latest episode of the movie series Hunger Games Thursday, as young Thais have adopted some of the movie's symbols to use in protests against the military government.

The screenings were dropped because of possible "political issues,"an employee of cinema chain APEX told dpa.
"We just don't want any trouble," he said, asking not to be named.
A group of pro-democracy students from Bangkok's Thammasat University had purchased over 150 tickets for the APEX premier on Thursday. Other cinemas in Thailand were still showing the film, which premiered in the country on Wednesday night.
The Hunger Games is a young adult adventure set in a dystopian future where the oppressed masses rebel against an elite-run Orwellian "capitol." A three-finger salute used by the film's protagonists has been adopted by groups protesting against the military government which took power in May. Five students were arrested on Wednesday in the north-eastern city of Khon Kaen for flashing the sign while Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha was giving a speech.
