NBTC commissioners attacked in NLA over high expenses

Wallop Tangkhananurak, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, Friday submitted a motion to ask the prime minister why the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission had very high spending.

Wallop noted that the NBTC spent Bt61 million for study trips abroad in 2013 plus Bt118 million for commissioners’ staffs, including secretaries and drivers, and Bt49 million more for its 65 sub-committees and 37 working committees.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngarm replied on behalf of the prime minister that the NBTC is an independent agency beyond the supervision of the government so the government cannot control its spending.
Wissanu said the NBTC act might be amended to require the spending be more transparent.
