A former municipality council member was shot dead by armed men in front of many witnesses in Pattani's Ma Yor district Tuesday. Police believe the shooting might have been the result of a private conflict - but haven't ruled out political unrest.
Saidee Yusoh, 59, was riding a motorcycle towards his home on Ma Yor-Thung Yang Dang road when a group of assailants opened fire with an M-16 rifle at around 9am, said deputy superintendent Pol Lt Col Jirasith Lorma. Police collected one spent M16 bullet from the scene. The victim received six gunshots in the back and was pronounced dead at Ma Yor Hospital.
