The Supreme Court Wednesday upheld the Bt500,000 fine against former Pheu Thai MP Somkid Barnthaisong, who has been convicted by the Criminal Court and Appeals Court in defaming an Army officer during a House debate in April 2009.
The Supreme Court refused to consider the appeal against the guilty verdict but ruled that the penalty was reasonable. The MP alleged that the Army officer assaulted a red-shirt woman.
