Deputy permanent secretary for health Dr Wachira Pengjuntr said two European engineers who travelled from Liberia and arrived in Thailand on December 24 were earlier suspected of carrying the disease as they had high fevers for two days after their arrival. However they were later diagnosed with malaria.

According to the World Health Organisation, the Ebola virus has infected more than 20,000 in the past year, mainly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
