Cabinet approves Bt17bn to give Bt1m to each tambon

The Cabinet yesterday approved a budget of Bt3.17 billion for a project that will channel Bt1 million to every tambon in the country that is repeatedly hit by drought.

Government Spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said 3,052 tambons across 58 provinces were defined as having repeated drought problems and the Government will use this project to ease the impact of the drought on locals.
“The Agriculture Ministry will monitor the implementation of this project to ensure that low-income farmers will get priority in jobs created under the project,” he said.
According to him, communities covered by the project will be able to design and manage initiatives under the fund provided by the project. Agricultural technology transfer and service centres in each eligible tambon will represent communities in submitting proposals and requesting funds.
“Proposals, for example, can be about the development of infrastructure for the agricultural sector in the communities,” Yongyuth said.
He said this project would be different from other Government projects related to drought assistance.
“We expect the project to hire more than two million people each day, generating the cash flow of B2.44 billion in the community economy,” Yongyuth said.
