Big reward for tip-offs on man wanted for anti-monarchy clips

Police have offered a bounty of Bt200,000 for a man wanted for allegedly insulting the monarchy in video clips posted on YouTube, Pol Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri, the police spokesman, said yesterday.

He said police were seeking court permission to issue a warrant to arrest Husdin Uraipraiwan, who is believed to head a group active in producing videos insulting the monarchy seen via social media. The man is accused of distributing videos on social media under the name “Banpodj”.
Police had found many pieces of equipment used to produce the videos, as well as relevant documents and CDs, during a search of Husdin’s house last Friday, Prawut said.
He said Husdin’s production house earned more than Bt100,000 a month producing and distributing CDs with content insulting the monarchy.
Police are working with the Anti-Money Laundering Office to investigate Husdin’s revenue sources in order to trace to his accomplices and to seize his ill-gotten money.
“The Royal Thai Police has offered a reward of Bt200,000 for information that leads to his arrest. Police believe Husdin is still in hiding in Bangkok. We found he participated in street demonstrations of the red shirts,” Prawut said.
Four of Husdin’s accomplices had been arrested for lese majeste and violations of the Computer Crime Act.
Separately, the military has handed a man arrested for allegedly sharing a forged statement online to police.
Krit Bootdeejeen, from Phetchabun, was detained in a military camp after his arrest last week. He was handed to police yesterday for legal action on charges of lese majeste and Computer Crime Act violations, Prawut said.
