Chanita Kinnis, 38, and her male “accomplice” Mek Cheuchin, 24, have been charged with filing a false police complaint – an offence punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a Bt1,000 fine.
Somyos said Chanita had claimed to be an heir to a Bt100-million inheritance of the wealthy Pathumwassana family, five members of which were killed in 2009, and close to disgraced ex-crime buster Pongpat Chayapan.
But she allegedly told a different story to the taxi driver who drove the pair to the golf course.
While she claimed to have been abducted, assaulted and left to die at the course, taxi man Prach Phongsai told police she and the other man hailed his cab from Soi Maiyalarp to the course.
He told police she showed no sign of being forced throughout the trip and that she was the one who handed money to him.
Somyos said police inquiries and security-camera footage contradicted Chanita’s claim.
Police later located Mek, who has a prior criminal record for fraud, in Kamphaeng Phet province. During the interrogation, Mek reportedly confessed to having been hired for Bt50,000 by Chanita via the Line chat application.
Mek told police that she wanted to appear to be a kidnap victim in order to get the attention of her boyfriend who had split with her two months ago.
He claimed that the woman was also pregnant.
Police also found no link between Chanita and the Pathumwassana family but learned that she was wanted for fraud in duping another person of Bt80,000 by claiming to be a relative of a famous Thai actor.
