Egat compensation to Mae Moh victims ready on Friday

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand is paying out compensation to villagers suffering from pollution caused by its Mae Moh power plant on March 13.

In a statement, Egat Governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate said that the cashier cheques worth totally Bt49 million would be handed to the Administrative Court's office in Chiang Mai on the day.
On February 11, the Supreme Administrative Court ruled that 123 villagers are entitled to the compensation and that must be paid within 60 days.
The sum also includes interest worth Bt23 million.
Egat was punished for the release of above-average sulphur dioxide during November 1992 and August 2008. Desulphurisation equipment was installed in September 2008.
