Man nabbed for running intimidation racket

Police have arrested a man for allegedly intimidating seven Songkhla-based businessmen into giving him Bt30 million in exchange for keeping quiet about them evading tax. He also allegedly had the businessmen give him a shop house worth around Bt16 million

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) arrested Uthai Songsomphan, 51, in Sadao district on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, deputy CSD chief Pol Colonel Akkharadej Phimonsri said the seven businessmen would be charged with tax evasion if the information about them evading tax can be proved.
Uthai, also known as Chinnakorn, leads a Phatthalung-based gang that calls itself “Buffalo Racket”, the officer said. CSD will also look into Uthai’s claims that a retired Army general was backing his racket.
