DNA tests conducted on 274 stateless, Karen people in Tak

Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand, director-general of the Central Institute of Forensic Science, led a forensic team in carrying out DNA tests of 274 stateless persons and Karen people who have yet to obtain Thai national Ids at Tak's Mae Ramat district office. T

These people are among the 400 stateless persons who registered with the district for Thai nationality over the past 30 years.
Pornthip said former district chief Chawengsak Jaikham had called on her to help conduct DNA tests as there were many children in the area. She added that HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was concerned about these children’s education.
