Air Force on standby to evacuate Thais from Yemen

The Thai Royal Air Force (RTAF) has put a C-130 aircraft on standby to evacuate Thai nationals from war-ravaged Yemen pending request from the Foreign Ministry, spokesman Air Vice-Marshall Monthon Satchukorn said yesterday.

As the fighting in Yemen has escalated, the Foreign Ministry met with related agencies and the Air Force on Tuesday to discuss the latest developments and to review the evacuation plan, route and gathering points so safety can be prioritised as per the prime minister’s instructions.
The meeting was told that the Thai Embassy in Oman had set up an operations centre at the Yemen-Oman border and dispatched working teams to move Thai nationals, most of them students, out of risky areas on a voluntary basis. Thai evacuees will be brought back to Thailand possibly via chartered flights, though the RTAF will be on standby to help if needed.
Relatives can call (02) 575 1047-8 or fax (02) 575 1052 from 8.30am to 10pm to get information from the Oman-Yemen border operation, or call the Thai Embassy in Muscat at (+968) 9649 4733 or (+968) 9927 3440 or e-mail [email protected].
