Refugee kids' right to education

TO PROMOTE awareness of refugee children's right to education, a press screening of the film "Recognise Our Education: Realise Our Dreams" will be held on April 24 at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Bangkok.

The film gives voice to refugee children and teachers to highlight the need for clear policies to ensure the children’s right to education.
Relevant presentations and a panel discussion will be held, while Myanmar’s reform agenda and the rights of ethnic minority children in that country will also be discussed under the theme “Children’s Rights: Refugee Education”.
The event will be hosted by Save the Children in partnership with Right To Play, Jesuit Refugee Service, and Adventist Development and Relief Agency.
There are around 110,000 refugees in nine refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border.
Elections in Myanmar in 2010 and a series of bilateral ceasefire agreements in 2012 have, for the first time, raised expectations about the prospect of national reconciliation in Myanmar and the voluntary repatriation of refugees.
However, the education provided in the camps is not aligned to either the Thailand or Myanmar’s education systems. Therefore, the education these refugee children receive remains unrecognised outside of the camps.
