NRC picks members to study new charter draft

The National Reform Council has chosen the members who will be responsible for examining the first draft of the new charter from today until Sunday, before it is debated by the full NRC from April 20 to 26, a source said yesterday.

Five members from each NRC panel have been chosen to scrutinise the first draft handed in by the Constitution Drafting Committee. The members hail from NRC panels ranging from reform in values, art, culture, ethics and religion, to law, justice and political reform.
However, the NRC panel on natural resources has asked chairman Thienchay Kiranandana to allow it to have six members to study the draft.
Sources say the members chosen to look into the charter draft do not appear to be the sort who will stage an attack. They have been told to spend time scrutinising every detail before handing the results in for debate starting next Monday.
