Police sergeant 'committed suicide'

Pol Sergeant Natthapong Nuan-eiad, who was found dead in a wooded area in Nakhon Ratchasima's Pak Chong district last Saturday, had hanged himself, according to Dr Sarit Srinukul, a forensic expert at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.

Sarit said Natthapong was dead for at least 18 hours before discovery. He cited the autopsy result that the rope wound around his neck was from self-hanging and there was no suggestion of foul play.
Provincial police deputy chief Pol Colonel Wanat Atkawin said some people at the Mor Pla Yang area told police they saw Natthapong walking alone on Friday afternoon in front of the Suranari Park area.
He said Natthapong was strongly built and well trained in fighting. It would take many people to overpower and murder him, which was unlikely.
Scientific Crime Detection Centre 3 inspector Pol Lt-Colonel Sathaporn Thongjamroon said the centre was examining evidence from the scene and the result should come out shortly.
Natthapong’s wife, Pol Sergeant Napapat Nuan-eiad, was found dead last Friday with blunt-force-trauma injuries to the head inside a police flat in Bangkok’s Lak Si district. Police suspect Natthapong killed his wife and then committed suicide, although Natthapong’s parents and relatives said they didn’t believe he would do so.
Natthapong’s cremation was held in Samut Songkhram province yesterday and the family quoted Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan, Central Institute of Forensic Science chief, as saying she would help examine any new evidence that could help clear Natthapong’s name.
