Brothers shot dead while riding bikes in far South

A schoolteacher and his elder brother were shot dead on Saturday night in Narathiwat's Chanae district. The authorities suspect the attack was part of ongoing unrest in the region.

Samri Leu-ngi, who was a teacher at Ban Nam Won School, and his brother Hamdan, a Chang Pheuk Sub-district Administrative Organisation member, were riding bicycles for exercise when two men on a motorcycle shot them. Police yesterday inspected the scene of the attack and collected five spent cartridges.
Ban Nam Won School director Isma-ae E-tae said the attackers may have observed the brothers’ evening routine of cycling before the shooting.
In related news, former paramilitary ranger volunteer Mahama-sugri Yitoso, 40, was fatally shot yesterday morning while travelling in his sedan in Bacho district in Narathiwat. Mahama-sugri was pronounced dead at a hospital.
He was seen stopping his car and talking to two men on a motorbike, one of whom pulled out a gun and shot at him nine times. Police suspect the motive of the killing was either a personal conflict or the insurgency.
