Young man held for painting anarchy symbols at court

POLICE yesterday arrested a former university student for allegedly spraying anarchy symbols on a sign of the Criminal Court in Nonthaburi province over the weekend.

The arrest of Nuttapol Khemngern, 22, was based on evidence from surveillance camera footage. Police say the suspect also confessed to spraying two anarchy symbols on a sign at the court.
Nuttapol said he had acted alone and for personal reasons.
He said the anarchy sign symbolised equality and he wanted to protest against injustice related to a friend who’d been shot dead by a soldier during a road rage incident in February. The case, he said, had made no progress.
Police charged him with damaging public property.
The Criminal Court is reviewing whether the act can also be regarded as contempt of court, spokesperson Bovonsak Tavipatana said.
