Thai kids' innovative idea win int'l awards

The energy-saving bamboo sticky rice steamer, an innovation of students of Piyamaharajalai School in Nakhon Phanom, has won three awards from the 26th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2015) in Kuala Lumpur.

It won the silver medal in the Household Items category.
It also won two special prizes from King Abdulaziz & his Companions foundation for the Giftedness & Creativity (Water Technology category) and from Indonesia's Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA).
The rice steamer won the national award from the Moving World Together contest jointly hosted by four institutes including the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and Thammasat University. The contest is aimed to promote energy-saving and environmental-friendly innovation.
According to Egat, the rice steamer is pending for patent. It is designed to allow thorough steam movement, which halves the cooking time from 30 minutes to 15 minutes.
