Dr Sujin Chawitranurak, 51, the 27th suspect, for whom an arrest warrant was issued on Monday, was linked to previously arrested suspects Ratthawit Thiti-arunwat and Pheeraya Harn-phrom, assistant national police chief Lt-General Suwira Songmetta said.
An investigation found that the doctor had received Bt27 million from 1,145 UFUN members, which he then wired to UFUN Store Co on 34 occasions from last December until March, Suwira said. Police will check his tax records to see if an additional charge of tax evasion can be filed against him, he added.
Sujin said he accepted his patient Ratthawit’s invitation and joined UFUN last year by investing Bt35,000, before increasing the investment to Bt5 million. However, once allegations regarding UFUN came out, he tried to withdraw his investment but only got Bt300,000 back, he said. The doctor also claimed that because he knew how to wire money online, he offered to make transfers for UFUN members.
Later yesterday, police seized a car bought by fugitive suspect Wirawit Jarupattanapaisan from a relative’s house in Din Daeng district and discovered three cashier cheques worth over Bt10 million, signed by Wirawit.
