The transfers of Metropolitan Police Division 5 chief Pol Maj-General Chawalit Prasopsin and his deputy Pol Colonel Jak Jittitham went into effect yesterday. Under the order, both have been given inactive posts at the Metropolitan Police Bureau.
The bureau’s chief Pol Lt-General Sriwara Rangsipramanakul issued their transfer orders after three South Koreans were arrested on Monday at a condo in Phra Khanong, which is under their jurisdiction, for allegedly running an online gambling operation.
“The officers will also face investigation,” Sriwara said yesterday, adding that he had also firmly instructed officers under his supervision to never engage in gambling. An informed source said the Korean suspects had been running the den for about five months.
Deputy Metropolitan Police chief Maj-General Nipon Charoenphon is now doubling up as acting chief of Metropolitan Police Division 5 in place of Chawalit.
On Monday, Chawalit also signed an order transferring five officers holding key positions at Klong Tan police.
Transferred were the station’s superintendent Colonel Chaiyaphon Ekkul, deputy superintendents Lt-Colonel Rittee Parndam and Lt-Colonel Tanawut Piapong, and inspectors Lt-Colonel Siripong Worapleuk and Lt-Colonel Yuttapong Padungrat.
Metropolitan Police Division 5 deputy chief Colonel Padon Prapanont is now filling in as acting superintendent at the Klong Tan police station. Pol Lt-Colonel Sirawat Nuamdee, a deputy superintendent at Tha Ruea police station, and Phra Khanong police station inspector Pol Lt-Colonel Somsit Santassanachok are doubling as deputy chiefs of Klong Tan police.
