53 Rohingya trafficking suspects to face indictment by June 25
PUBLIC PROSECUTORS dealing with the Rohingya trafficking case will be ready to indict all 53 suspects in custody by June 25, deputy Attorney General Somnuek Siangkong said yesterday.
This deadline is based on the scheduled completion of police investigations of the case by June 19.
In addition to the 83 people wanted in the case – 53 are already in custody – five additional suspects will be facing arrest, police said.
Three of the additional suspects are Thai nationals based in Songkhla’s Sadao district, while one is a Myanmar nation and the other Rohingya.
Meanwhile, a mission led by Malaysian police to exhume bodies from 91 graves found on a hill on the Malaysian side of the border near Songkhla has been completed, said Songkhla police chief Pol Maj-General Ampon Buarubporn. Since the site can only be accessed by crossing the border into Thailand, the remains will be transported by helicopter to avoid moving them on Thai soil.
