Five Koh Pha-ngan jet-ski operators arrested

Soldiers were dispatched yesterday to arrest five jet-ski operators in Surat Thani's Koh Pha-ngan after people filed complaints of being overcharged and of the operation having an environmental impact.

The jet-ski operators were also accused of disturbing other tourists by failing to maintain their equipment in designated areas. Fishermen have also complained that shrimp stocks have migrated away from Surat Thani waters due to this disruptive water sport.
Arrest warrants have been issued for five jet-ski operators at Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach and Rin Beach. Soldiers have also confiscated 20 jet skis. The suspects are being detained at the Koh Pha-ngan Police Station for further due process.
