Mount Raung's status has been upgraded from alert to standby and areas within three kilometres of its crater have been vacated.
The volcano is located on the border of East Java's Banyuwangi, Bondowoso and Jember districts.
At least 12 international flights by Jet Star and Virgin Australia connecting Australia and Indonesian resort island of Bali were cancelled Saturday due to Mount Raung's increased volcanic activity, according to Indonesian news website jpnn.com.
