TPBS spared from junta's punishment for now

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) suspended Monday its decision whether to punish Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) for news reports on a student movement.

The issue was not on the meeting agenda of the NBTC's Broadcasting Committee, said Major Komate Prateepthong, director of broadcasting regulation department.
Last week, the junta asked the agency to consider actions against the reports, which it said caused confusion. A sub-committee, led by commissioner Lt-General Peerapong Manakit, invested the issue and had discussions with Thai PBS. Peerapong said the channel's representatives are invited for another meeting on July 15.
