Long jail terms for TrueMove card hackers

Three men found guilty of fraud in True Move Co's money-top-up electronic card will serve jail terms ranging from five years and four months to 50 years, according to a ruling by the Supreme Court on June 29 that was announced yesterday.

Thaweesap Lalitsasiwimon, Porames Witthayakorn and Chatchai Buranadit were accused of conspiring to hack and forge electronic cards’ information in the TrueMove system to lift the top-up value to Bt105 million before selling top-up credits for more than Bt12 million.
Thaweesap, found guilty of hacking and forging information, was originally given a total of 96 years in prison, which was reduced to 64 years, but he will serve 50 years – the maximum under Thai law.
Porames was initially given 32 years in jail, which was reduced to 21 years and four months, while Chatchai, found guilty of aiding the selling, was sentenced to eight years in jail, which was cut to five years and four months.
