Ranong model for Myanmar migrants

The southern province of Ranong has reserved over 800 rai of land to house Myanmar migrant workers, according to Ranong governor Suriyan Kanchanasilp.

The governor said the land is located in two districts. A survey found that 27,732 workers from Myanmar are residing in the province.
Suriyan said that the land allocation follows the Interior Ministry's decision to use Ranong as the model for migrant worker supervision.
The zoning will benefit national security, he said. Aside, it will reduce the number of illegal workers and improve the quality of life for the workers. As the workers reside in particular zones, this will facilitate supervision and this should maintain the positive relations of Thailand and Myanmar.
