Commerce seeks cut in goods prices

Boonyarit Kalayanamit, the director-general of the Commerce Ministry's Internal Trade Department, unveiled the plan to discuss with manufacturers over a possible cut in goods prices in line with falling diesel prices.

He said that diesel is now sold at Bt22.89 a litre, the lowest level in six years and three months. Some goods prices could be cut accordingly, he added.
Earlier, the prices of lubricants, plastic pellets, roof tiles, fertilisers and steel have been cut by 5-8 per cent.
"We'll convene a meeting within this month to see if the prices of other goods can be reduced," he said. "Yet, we have to admit that there are other factors influencing goods prices, like the baht depreciation which drives up import prices."
