Tarrit jailed two years for abusing authority to harass subordinate

The Criminal Court on Tuesday jailed former Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit for two years after finding him guilty of abusing his authority to unlawfully transfer a subordinate.

The court found that Tarit was wrong in proposing the transfer of Piyawat Kingked from the post of director of the Intellectual Property Division to a lower-ranking case specialist post.
The transfer was made in 2012.
The court found that Tarit proposed Piyawat’s transfer due to conflict in the workplace and ordered him to be jailed for two years without suspending the jail term.
The Criminal Court later freed Tarit on bail. He was required to place assets worth Bt200,000 as a guarantee.
Tarit left the Criminal Court without giving an interview to reporters.
Former deputy permanent secretary Charnchao Chaiyanukit was named a co-defendant but the court acquitted him on the grounds that he did not have any intention to harass Piyawat.
