Papua residents find suspected pieces of missing plane

Jakarta (dpa) - Residents found two metal pieces that might have come from the aircraft that went missing with 54 people on board in Indonesia's remote Papua province, a military official said Wednesday.

The ATR 42 operated by Trigana Air disappeared from the radar on Sunday just 10 minutes before its scheduled arrival at Oksibil in the mountainous Pegunungan Bintang district.
"We have received information from residents that they have found two irregular pieces," local military commander Colonel Sugiyono told TV One broadcaster.
"I can't say for sure but they could be the plane's doors," he said.
Earlier searchers conducting aerial surveillance spotted what could be the wreckage of the plane about 12 kilometres from Oksibil.
Local search official Ludiyanto said bad weather and mountainous terrain were hampering attempts by search workers to reach the suspected crash site.
