Police say man killed grandson he reported missing

A Phetchabun resident allegedly confessed to killing his two-year-old grandson before filing a missing persons complaint to conceal the crime.

He claimed he was angry with his daughter for leaving her four children with him – but failed to pay child support. The boy was continually crying.
Following a Thai social media circle’s sharing of information of the boy’s disappearance since August 11, rescue workers and police finally found the body in a ditch behind Ban Samphu School in Lom Sak district on Tuesday afternoon.
Police questions later resulted in 61-year-old Sanan Daengdongbang’s alleged confession. He said he was taking care of the children while his wife went out, but the boy was crying and he was stressed out over the daughter’s action. Police claim Sanan strangled the boy to death and hid the body in a wooded area about 500 metres from home.
He then pretended to help search for the “missing” boy, during which he moved the body to a ditch further into the woods, he told police. Sanan now faces charges of murder, moving a body to conceal the crime and filing a fault report. He was later taken to re-enact the crime among tight security while 1,000 onlookers cursed him.
