My camera cost more than your car: Leica launches high-end DSLR

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2015

Berlin (dpa) - A camera that costs more than a new car is the latest status symbol from German luxury camera maker Leica.

The enhanced version of its Leica S (Type 007) medium-format camera has a light sensor five times bigger than a normal APS-C single-lens reflex, a resolution of 37.5 megapixels and light sensitivity that ranges up to ISO 12 500.

But as this baby nestles in your hand, the number you are most likely to have in mind is the price. It retails for about 16,700 dollars in Germany, more than for many of the four-door hatchbacks out on the road.

Thanks in part to the aid of a 2GB memory buffer, the Leica S has  aburst frequency of up to 3.5 frames per second.

It comes with a stereo microphone and records full-HD video at up to 30 frames a second or 4K video at 24 frames a second. The Leica S is equipped with integrated Wi-Fi and a GPS position sensor.
