Since it kicked off on August 20, the National Savings Fund programme has so far attracted 268,289 applicants with a total of Bt249 million in savings, Government Spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday.

The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives got 189,080 members covering Bt179 million, Government Savings Bank got 61,637 members covering Bt46 million and Krung Thai Bank got 17,572 members covering Bt24 million, he said.
This shows that the public is aware of the importance of saving and is in line with the government’s policy to provide security after retirement for those not covered by a pension system, Sansern said.
