She is attending a series of key events during the UNGA week to raise awareness of handwashing with soap to help reduce child and newborn mortality. At these events, she will galvanise support for the inclusion of handwashing as a hygiene indicator in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and spread the message about the importance of hand washing.
Also a medical doctor, she is the goodwill brand ambassador of Lifebuoy, a soap product of Unilever.
Among the events at the UNGA week, the highlight of Chit Thu Wai’s role is her attendance and speech at the Unilever Hygiene and Nutrition Luncheon on the 27th of September. The Lunch is hosted by Unilever CEO Paul Polman to discuss the importance of handwashing and lobby for a hygiene indicator to be included in the final list of SDG indicators. Chit Thu Wai will provide insight to all attendees about the Lifebuoy campaign and the impact this simple hygiene habit can have in communities across Myanmar.
