Police to appeal against huge compensation payout ruling

THE Royal Thai Police will appeal against a court ruling to pay a contractor almost Bt97 million in compensation over a project to build 396 replacement police stations.

Pol Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said yesterday Chiang Mai Administrative Court ruled that the RTP’s cancelling of a contract in April 2013 was legitimate but ordered it to pay compensation to PCC Development and Construction Co for work already done and materials purchased for the work.
He said the RTP had doubts about the company’s inventory for the materials and would lodge an appeal within 30 days and may also appeal against the compensation figure, which he labelled too high. He said police had not lost the case because the court had only ordered it to pay partial compensation.
