Prawit allays fear over non-PM proposal

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan Wednesday allayed public fear that the National Council for Peace and Order would perpetuate power via the proposal that a non-MP could become the prime minister.

“I insisted that not any NCPO members, including the premier and me, will enter politics. Please don’t forget that if MPs won’t invite an outsider PM how one can become [the PM],” he said.
He added that this controversial proposal would have to be approved by voters in a national referendum.
Prawit said the clause, if it was put in the draft, would mean to help prevent further crisis if it really happened.
