SUDDENLY, EVERYONE involved has a dilemma. Any decision made for the four-year-old girl will hurt her in one way or another, because it is hard for her to accept that she is not biologically related to the loving family she lived with.
Even worse is the fact that the woman she calls “Mum” stole her from her real mother, who had been desperately looking for her for the past four years.
The girl has shown signs of depression, after her real mother produced solid evidence that the girl was snatched from a hospital when she was just two days old.
The crime was reported in February 2011 in Khon Kaen, leaving the real mother heartbroken.
“I will fight to the end to get my daughter back,” she had said.
In response to her complaint and the evidence she produced, the woman who allegedly stole the child is now in police detention.
She has confessed to the crime, saying she did it after having a miscarriage.
The baby snatcher’s parents in law had happily raised the girl in Chaiyaphum without knowing that she was not their biological grandchild.
Questions about the girl’s real origins came up only after the baby snatcher could not produce a birth certificate to enrol the girl in school.
The baby snatcher’s father-in-law, 52, said he loved the girl all the same even after finding out the truth.
“We have raised her since she was just about five days old. We are ready to embrace her real mother too. She can become a part of our family. This way, no one loses anything,” he said.
He said he had sympathy for the real mother, but he felt it was best to explore solutions together in the best interests of the girl.
“She can come to spend time with us. This way, ties can gradually develop between her and her daughter too,” he said.
His family’s financial situation is quite good. He owns several vehicles, including trucks, and he is a councillor of a tambon administrative organisation.
The girl’s real mother said she would cooperate with a team of officials who felt it was necessary to take care of the girl’s psychological condition.
She is scheduled to meet with officials of Chaiyaphum’s Social Development and Human Security Office today.
