No flaw so far: EU observer

As of 8.30am today - two and a half hours after Myanmar voting started, European Union observer mission chief said there have been no reported flaws.

At a brief press conference at a polling booth in Bahan Township,  Alexander Graf Lambsdorff said that there have been no irregularities so far in the voting procedures.

Nevertheless, he noted that what happened today shows the government "doesn't seem to listen" to EU recommendations.

"We are here today to get the picture before the press conference on Tuesday," he said.

The team's preliminary report will be released on Tuesday. The long-term observers arrived on October 21 and they visited parts of the country including Shan State.

The Myanmar election, the first in decades that 92 political parties including the opposition National League for Democracy join the race, took place today. Myanmar has over 30 million eligible voters.

Some voters, excited with an opportunity for a change, queued up before dawn.

At a polling booth in Kawhmu Township where NLD chairwoman cast her vote around 9am, hundreds of journalists and cameramen waited for three hours for the rare photo opportunity.

Mingling with them were  some voters from the township and others who waited to get a glimpse of her.
