“If there’s evidence against them, we will seek court approval for warrants to arrest them,’’ he said.
Investigations into the four had nothing to do with their resignations, which took effect last Friday, Thitirat said.
The officers were named as Pol Colonel Sivapong Patpongpanich, deputy head of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), Pol Colonel Pairoj Rojanakachorn, superintendent of the 2nd subdivision of the CSD, Pol Lt-Colonel Thammawat Hiranyalekha, CSD deputy superintendent, and Pol Lt-Colonel Jirawat Boonwat-tanaporn, of the Highways Police.
Sources said evidence suggested that a police colonel had colluded with Pol Major Prakom Warunprapa, who was arrested on charges of lese majeste and hanged himself in his cell. Prakom allegedly used a car confiscated from the criminal network of Pol Lt-General Pongpat Chayapan, the former Central Investigation Bureau head convicted and jailed for lese majeste and graft. The police colonel also allegedly demanded kickbacks from entertainment venues.
Pol Lt-General Srivara Rangsibrah-manakul, caretaker assistant police chief, said he would take up 12 cases of lese majeste from the CSD for consideration before deciding whether or not to prosecute anyone.
He said it was impossible that Prakom had worked alone.
