Death sentence for 2011 teashop killer

Death sentence for 2011 teashop killer

The Pattani Provincial Court has sentenced a local man to death for killing five people in a gun attack at a teashop in Panare district on February 3, 2011, the Muslim Attorney Centre Foundation revealed yesterday.

The verdict was handed down on November 11 and it stated that Asamal Jehba, 33, was guilty of conspiring with others to launch the drive-by attack at the teashop, which also resulted in four injuries. Another defendant, Aliyasa Samoh, 32, was acquitted.
In June, Asamal was sentenced to 38 years in jail in a separate national security case and the court was scheduled to read the verdict in yet another national security case on November 30. Aliyasa had been given life sentences for two other cases – both of which he appealed – and was acquitted in five cases, including this attack.
