Ang Thong, Sakon Nakhon to launch job-creation, skill-boosting schemes

Urgent employment and skill-development programmes will soon be launched in Ang Thong and Sakon Nakhon provinces to help drought-hit farmers.

Deputy governor Kajonchai Wattanapayun, who presided over the programme meeting at the Ang Thong City Hall yesterday, said the Bt10million programme would be divided into two key projects: an urgent employment scheme, comprised of seven employment schemes, and the skill-development scheme which comprised 37 activities.
The province also set up a working team to follow through with project implementations and budget spending since the start, during and after the project completion, he added.
In Sakon Nakhon province, governor Adisak Thep-art presided over the programme meeting which was attended by officials and private-sector representatives from 18 districts. Urging people not to grow off-season rice, the governor discussed developing alternative agricultural careers to meet the community’s needs and boost household incomes via promoting the planting of low-water-consuming crops. Participants proposed more than 22 such crops, including peanut, corn, tomato, watermelon and cantaloupe. Adisak also urged related agencies to help find markets and more distribution channels.
