4G licence prices exceed Bt100bn

The auction of 4G mobile-service licence continued for the third day, with all four bidders being as aggressive as ever.

At 1pm, when the 120th auction round was completed, the bids for the two licences are valued at Bt104.6 billion: Lot 1, Bt51.5 billion and Lot 2, Bt53.1 billion.
The fierce competition sparked rumours that Total Access Communication which failed in the November bid struggled to maintain its presence in Thailand. Meanwhile, Jasmine International, parent of fixed network operator Triple T Broadband, is apparently fighting hard to make the first step into the mobile phone industry.
In the 122nd round which was completed around 1.30pm, no company submitted bids for Lot 1 licence. The price stayed at Bt51.83 billion. Two companies fought for Lot 2 licence, pushing the price further to Bt53.76 billion. The combined value hit Bt105.58 billion.
