A Lao Premier League All-star team will face 2015 Thai Premier League Champions Buriram United in a friendly charity match at the national stadium in Vientiane on January 31.

The Lao All-star team will feature a mix of experienced Vientiane based players with many of them being national representatives at the SEA Games and other Asean football tournaments.

Thai Premier League Champions for the last three years running Buriram United will kick off their Asian Tour against the Lao All-stars, it was revealed on Tuesday at a press conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Lao Football Federation (LFF) is hoping for a big crowd but fans unable to make it along to the match can catch the action live on TVLao and Thai Channel 3. Following the friendly match there will also be a concert featuring well known acts from both countries.

“The LFF has been able to mobilise some funding to stage the friendly match and concert, and proceeds from the event will assist to build schools in remote areas of Phongsaly and Saravan provinces,” LFF General Secretary Dr Xaybandith Rasphone said.

On January 30, Buriram United’s players will also be holding a clinic for local junior footballers in Vientiane before the friendly on January 31.

Dr Xaybandith added that a signing ceremony to extend cooperation between LFF and Buriram United from 2016 to 2018 would be held in Vientiane next year.

LFF and Buriram United previously had an agreement from 2011 to 2013, which allowed LFF to send the Lao national team to train at Buriram United while LFF officials attended a training course at the Thai club.

Before the friendly match in Vientiane, Buriram United will face a Cambodian All-star team on January 23 in a fundraiser for Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital in Phnom Penh.

On January 27, Buriram United will also host a K-League club from the Republic of Korea.
