DSI rejects monk’s plea to investigate abbot

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has rejected the outspoken monk Buddha Isara’s request for a probe of the abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, who allegedly received a gold statute from Wat Dhammakaya, because it did not qualify as a criminal o

He said the DSI had passed the case on to the National Office of Buddhism and the Sangha Council to proceed on monastic measures.
The comments were in response |to the objection of Paiboon Nititawan, a former charter drafter, who protested against the Sangha Council’s plan to convene a meeting on Monday to nominate a candidate for Supreme Patriarch.
The objection was on the grounds that some senior monks were |allegedly linked to the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative embezzlement scandal via donations to Wat Dhammakaya.
Paiboon cited Buddha Isara’s call for the DSI probe.
Woranant added that the DSI was investigating a Mercedes held under the abbot’s name while the Customs Department was assessing taxes on the imported car parts.
