Suu Kyi and Shwe Mann meet Tony Blair

Nay Pyi Taw - Aung San Suu Kyi and Union Parliament Speaker Thura Shwe Mann met former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair separately in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

Shwe Mann met Blair at the Parliament building, according to the Speaker’s Facebook account, although he gave no details.
“Tony Blair is one of the old friends of the Speaker. He came here before. They talked about the successful election and the transfer of power. He spoke about the importance of politics, economics and cooperation between the countries,” said Hla Myint Oo, chairman of the parliamentary international relations committee.
The Speaker said that although he lost in the election he would work for the country and its citizens if needed.
Blair apparently said he was satisfied with the situation in Myanmar.
He met Suu Kyi in the afternoon although no details were released.
The Speaker and Suu Kyi have met regularly in recent months.
The Parliament will be disbanded on January 30 and the new MPs will start on February 1.
