Mystery over man’s death in Bangkok

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has said that a pole installed with a CCTV camera at Soi Paholyothin 47 in Chatuchak district did not have a voltage leakage, after reports claimed a man’s death on Saturday was linked to that.

An autopsy has been performed on the body of the unnamed man, believed to be aged in his 30s, who was found dead near the pole on Saturday.
The result of the autopsy, carried out at Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine, is not yet known.
Thaweesak Lertpraphan, deputy director of the BMA’s Traffic and Transport Department, said on Sunday that officials checked the pole and did not find any electrical power leakage and its electrical resistance was in the normal range.
But he said the city would still instruct the Metropolitan Electricity Authority’s Bang Khen branch to carry out a more detailed check of the pole.
The city was waiting for the autopsy result to see what caused this man’s death and if it were electrocution assistance would be provided, he added.
Chatuchak district chief Chaowarong Songnawarat said that as a precaution he had instructed city officials to inspect all CCTV poles for possible voltage leakages or severed wires.
Any problems would be fixed by the Traffic and Transport Department, Chaowarong said.
