Finance eyes 4% growth in 2016

Finance Permanent Secretary Somchai Sajjapongse announced Monday the Thai economy would expand by 3.9-4 per cent in 2016, citing stimulus measures prepared for every quarter.

The ministry's Fiscal Policy Office pens the growth forecast at 3.8 per cent. The World Bank eyes the below-3 per cent rate for Thailand. Bank of Thailand's latest projection is 3.5 per cent.
"We have been prepared to some extent, with measures to be announced in each quarter. We will evaluate the impacts in each month and each quarter," Somchai said.
He noted that the first quarter of this year would benefit from the measures announced in the previous quarter including the Village Fund scheme as well as injection into state-owned financial institutions. He also expressed concerns about drought.
