Defeated Myanmar minister drops case against polling officer

Yangon - The campaign manager for Union Minister Ohn Myint, requested on January 11 that his case against a polling officer be withdrawn from the Kyauktan court. The minister previously filed a lawsuit against deputy polling officer Mya Mya Aye following

Aung Thein, the lawyer representing Mya Mya Aye, said: “Wrongful prosecution is the responsibility of the prosecutor. In this case, Minister Ohn Myint is the responsible person. Therefore, he should apologise to us in court. But if he apologises to us outside the court, we will accept it. We have the right to demand compensation.”
The defendant, who is also a teacher, said: “I will appreciate their apology if they offer it. Otherwise, I will prosecute them in turn.”
She continued: “I won’t serve as a polling in-charge in next election in 2020 or the by-election. Other teachers will also refuse to do it. We were assigned by the Ministry of Education. But the ministry did not assist us with problems like these. We are fed up with that.”
