Bomb joke tourist let off with stern warning

George Town The Indonesian tourist who allegedly joked that her luggage contained a bomb at the Penang International Airport has been released with a stern warning.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Lai Fah Hin said the case had been classified as “no further action”. This was based on the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s instructions because there was no solid evidence.

The 32-year-old woman, he said, was released yesterday with a stern warning.

It was earlier reported that she had apparently joked with an auxiliary policeman that there was a bomb in her luggage.

It was during a security check at the domestic departure terminal at 9am on Tuesday.

The woman was supposed to board a 9.45am flight to Kuala Lumpur en route to Jakarta.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi warned the public not to make false bomb threats at public places.

“Whether you are just joking or trying to release your anger, do not simply play with the word ‘bomb’ as it may cause chaos and worry among the people,” he told reporters after the monthly gathering at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
