Chronology of the Jakarta blasts

The following is the chronology of the blasts that occurred on Jakarta's main road of Jl. MH Thamrin, as reported by Antara news agency:

 

10:40amThe first bomb is detonated at a Starbucks located at the Djakarta Theater building, in front of the Sarinah department store on Jl. MH Thamrin.

 

10:53amA second explosion is reported to have taken place nearby.

 

10:56amA third explosion occurs in the midst of a shoot-out between the police and suspected perpetrators following the two blasts.

 

11amThree more explosions follow at 11am, 11:03am and 11:04am. The blasts are heard within a 2-kilometre radius of Jl. MH Thamrin. At least four casualties are reported.

 

11:22amThe National Police and their Densus 88 counterterrorism unit surround a Starbucks located next to the Sarinah department store, where one of the explosions took place. The police force reportedly goes after one armed perpetrator suspected of carrying explosives in his backpack.

 

12:36pmA seventh explosion takes place near the Sarinah department store. Police and military personnel are at the location when the blast occurs. Hundreds of police surround the Djakarta Theatre building, located next to the Sarinah department store, in pursuit of a suspect. Approximately 20 military personnel secure the location.

 

1:15pmPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo releases a statement condemning the attacks and orders the police to find the perpetrators. The President speaks on national TV, telling the public to remain calm and that the situation is under control.

 

“The state, nation and people should not be afraid of, and lose to such terror acts,” Jokowi said.
